TVNZ to bring FIFA World Cup 26 to Kiwi fans

TVNZ has secured exclusive rights to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with free-to-air and paid options on TVNZ1 and TVNZ+ from June next year.

Hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico, FIFA World Cup 26 will see 48 teams playing 104 matches over 39 action-packed days, making it the biggest and most globally representative FIFA World Cup to date.

The 2026 tournament will also see the All Whites compete for the first time since 2010.

TVNZ says Kiwis can look forward to comprehensive, engaging and innovative coverage as it shares the world’s game with Aotearoa like never before.

Watch how you want

All New Zealand matches, alongside a selection of other games will be available free-to-air on TVNZ1. The 1News team will also be on the ground bringing Kiwis access to the stories and players at the World Cup.

For fans wanting to catch every moment of the action, a one-off event pass on TVNZ+ will be available for purchase. The pass will offer fans the flexibility to enjoy every match, live and uninterrupted, wherever and whenever they choose.

TVNZ’s chief executive Jodi O’Donnell says: “It’s a huge moment for TVNZ securing comprehensive rights to such a massive sporting occasion. Football is one of the fastest growing sports in New Zealand. The UEFA EUROs and Wrexham FC matches saw big audiences for TVNZ. With the All Whites in the mix, we are so excited to bring the FIFA World Cup 26 to Kiwis next year and give them more opportunity to get swept up in football fever.

“Today’s announcement of a new pay TV service, offering New Zealanders the opportunity to buy a one-off event pass to the FIFA World Cup 26, is a gamechanger for TVNZ. Launching a pay product means TVNZ can competitively bid for and acquire more sports and serve it to audiences in the ways they want to watch it – whether it’s every moment live, or free-to-air on our channels.”

TVNZ will announce full details of its paid and free-to-air offerings in due course.
