MediaWorks expands the Breeze with Breeze Classic

MediaWorks has announced Breeze Classic, a new extension of the Breeze. It will move onto FM frequencies currently occupied by Magic on November 1.

The new station will focus on featuring artists such as Queen, Fleetwood Mac, ABBA and Elton John.

Breeze Classic will be hosted by Magic personalities Mark McCarron, Mel Homer, John Markby, Murray Lindsay and Trudi Nelson.

Driven by listener feedback

Leon Wratt, MediaWorks’ director of content, says the station’s evolution is driven by listener feedback.

“Over the past year, we’ve been asking listeners what music they want. Some wanted a more classic hits playlist, while others wanted one that’s more contemporary. So our solution is to launch Breeze Classic for those who love the classics from the late 60s, 70s and early 80s, while Breeze continues to play hits from the 80s, 90s and 2000s.”

Breeze Classic will launch with a national focus, while the Breeze’s local presenters will continue to engage directly with their communities.

An exciting new chapter

“This is an exciting new chapter for the Breeze where we can deliver both listeners and advertisers more of what they want,” says Wratt.

“The Breeze has always evolved with its listeners, and we’re confident this next era will continue to drive engaged, loyal communities across Aotearoa.

“Magic remains an important part of the station mix for MediaWorks and will move to rova, presented by Bob Gentil, and concentrate on playing the nostalgic hits of the 50s and 60s.”

Breeze Classic will launch on FM radio across 25 frequencies nationwide and rova from November 1.
