NZME expands Herald Now with new business show

New Zealand Media and Entertainment is expanding its live, digital show Herald Now this year.

The new addition, a dedicated business show, comes following strong audience demand and the platform’s rapid growth since its launch in May 2025

NZ Herald editor-in-chief Murray Kirkness says NZME is proud of the success of Herald Now. The show delivers news and current affairs to audiences “whenever they want it, wherever they are”.

“The addition of a dedicated business programme shows we’re building on the platform’s success, expanding our offering to meet the evolving ways New Zealanders consume news in 2025. I am proud of the depth of talent in business journalism here at NZME – it’s unrivalled in New Zealand. I’m looking forward to us further showcasing that through Herald Now Business.”

Hosted by Garth Bray

The new half-hour business programme, Herald Now Business, will air weekday mornings from 6.30am to 7am, before the two-hour show presented by Ryan Bridge. It will be hosted by Garth Bray with 2degrees Business on board as presenting partner.

Bray is a former television broadcaster and current investigative reporter for BusinessDesk and has been a regular face on Bridge’s show to discuss business matters. He brings more than 25 years’ experience reporting on consumer affairs, business and politics.

“I can’t wait to get stuck in hosting Herald Now Business. New Zealanders like what they’re seeing on Herald Now – it’s snappy, smart and engaging. In 2026, we’ll be getting their workdays off to an even better start by introducing them to businesses they need to know about, and the people driving them,” says Bray.

NZME managing editor – multimedia content Sarah Bristow adds: “Since launching Herald Now in May, we’ve seen incredible audience engagement, and the demand for business content has been particularly strong.

“Garth’s expertise and engaging presentation style, which our viewers already know from his regular appearances, make him the perfect host to deliver the business news and analysis Kiwis need to start their day.”

Clear-eyed commentary

Experienced media leader Erica Lloyd is also coming on board this year as the show’s executive producer. She has decades of experience across business media, innovation and technology from senior roles at TVNZ, MediaWorks, BNZ, Datacom, Callaghan Innovation, Soul Machines and Zenno Astronautics.

Media leader Erica Lloyd is coming on board as executive producer.

Lloyd says: “Now more than ever, New Zealand’s productivity depends on accurate, real-time business data and clear-eyed commentary from those building and leading companies. I’m delighted to step in and establish this critical new NZME property in service of the wider economy.”

The new business show will be available via the NZ Herald homepage on desktop and mobile, as well as BusinessDesk, streaming live from NZME’s purpose-built studio facilities in Auckland Central.

Full editions will also be available on the NZ Herald’s YouTube channel.
