Flying Fish welcomes Charlotte Evans to its director roster

Film production company Flying Fish has welcomed Charlotte Evans to its director roster, for representation in New Zealand.

Evans’s style lives at the intersection of cinematic craft and emotional honesty, shaped by a sharp instinct for performance and a visual style rooted in authenticity.

She started out her career in London, cutting her teeth under editor Rick Waller before relocating to New Zealand in 2009. From there, she quickly became a go-to director across commercials, music videos and long-form documentary, building a reputation for work that feels both elevated and deeply human.

A strong reputation

Evans has directed award-winning music videos for artists including Kimbra, Aldous Harding, Benee and The DMA’s, earning two Clipped Music Video Festival wins for Best Director and Best Editor.

Her short film Give Kate A Voice was recognised as a Webby Honoree and took home Silver at the NZCINE Awards.

Evans has also directed campaigns for global brands including Adidas, AIA, the NSW Government and Tourism New Zealand. She contributed to Tourism NZ’s globally celebrated Good Morning World platform – a multiple Global Effie Award winner that was also recognised across Cannes Lions, D&AD, Spikes Asia and the Axis Awards.

A combination of experience, instinct and curiosity

Across everything she makes, there’s a consistent through-line: cinematic texture, instinctive performances and stories rooted in identity, community and social change.

“Having another unique and provocative female director to bring into the fold is incredibly exciting for us,” says executive producer Samantha Attenborough.

“Charlotte brings a rare combination of experience, instinct and genuine curiosity to her work, and her passion for mining real truths within storytelling is something very special.

“She has a way of uncovering authentic human moments and translating them into work that feels both emotionally honest and visually compelling, which is exactly the kind of voice we’re proud to champion.”

Evans says: “I’m thrilled to be joining Flying Fish in New Zealand. Their commitment to distinctive, director-driven storytelling really resonates with me, and I’m proud to sit alongside such an exceptional roster of filmmakers.”
