AUCKLAND, Today: Val Morgan reports record audiences for the opening weekend in NZ  of Fast & Furious 9, which delivered the highest numbers since Jumanji: The Next Level in December 2019.

The 14-39 demographic provided 77% of the opening weekend’s audience numbers.

Fast & Furious 9 delivered a four-day audience of 179,000 – up 91% week-on-week. The  movies numbers eclipsed 2019’s Fast franchise spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw, opening weekend by +30%, proving a pent-up demand for blockbuster content on the big screen.

VMO GM Andy Athans says audiences will continue to grow with four new big blockbuster titles in July; Black Widow – Space Jam: A New Legacy, Snake Eyes, and Jungle Cruise.

“These figures are only the start of Hollywood’s big comeback, with several big-budget cultural moments slated to drop over the next six months,” he said. “It all marks the return of consumer confidence in the cinema environment.”
