Lorde is set to perform her Solar Power tour in New Zealand this summer, and a street poster campaign by Phantom Billstickers has proved popular with fans who have claimed the posters for themselves.
A release by the street poster pros says a Lorde fan by the name of Kerurulover made a TikTok recording their removal of Lorde’s poster from one of the company’s frames.
“It garnered over 64,000 likes. Before we knew it, copycat thieves were popping up all over the place. Something had to be done,” the communication read.
In response Phantom Billstickers decided to give a few posters away as collectables.
“Since fans were desperate to get their hands on Lorde’s poster, we thought we’d feed the need. A post on Phantom’s Facebook and Instagram pages gave our followers the chance to win 20 Lorde posters without the bother of ripping them from the frames. Over 1,000 people put their hands up.
“Our take: This is real-world social media. A cool poster has a physical presence that provokes action – in this case, stealing the poster. While we don’t want to encourage this sort of extreme poster love, we can kinda understand it.”
