In a social media campaign launched today, Creative New Zealand has partnered with Augusto to amplifying voices from the arts community to encourage vaccination.
While vaccination rates are rising in Aotearoa New Zealand, the social media campaign aims to connect with people who are yet to be vaccinated.
With artists front and centre, the campaign features well-known voices from the arts community sharing their ‘why’: why they do what they do, why they love their creative practice, and why they choose to be vaccinated. The artists will each offer their own perspective in a series of videos launching over the next two weeks on their own social media platforms.
The artists involved in the campaign are spoken word poet Stevie Davis-Tana, street artists Charles and Janine Williams, musicians Pere Wihongi and Ria Hall, and comedian Tofiga Fepulea’i. The campaign is being developed and delivered by creative agency Augusto.
“Artists understand that being able to come together is a core part of the wellbeing of any community or society,” says Creative New Zealand Chief Executive Stephen Wainwright.
“The Delta variant of COVID-19 has severely impacted the arts, culture and live events sector, which can’t viably operate with heightened alert levels and lockdowns. As we enter the new COVID-19 Protection Framework (or traffic light system), higher vaccination rates are crucial for the livelihood and future success of the sector.”
“As we move toward a time when we can enjoy arts and culture safely together again in Aotearoa, we need to encourage more people to be vaccinated.”
The campaign is part of Creative New Zealand’s broader advocacy work, which aims to promote the value of the arts and raise the profile and reach of the contribution that the arts, culture and creativity make to our lives.
Campaign videos will be first posted by the artists on their own platforms (release is staggered over the next two weeks), with Creative New Zealand then promoting the videos through its channels.
First release: Pere Wihongi. Watch on Pere’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
