The 17,680 Nights of July is the latest fundraising campaign for Women’s Refuge via EightyOne. It’s a big number, and an even more urgent need. Because that’s how many nights of safe, secure accommodation women and children escaping family violence need every month.
The hero mechanism for the campaign is an online 17,680-night calendar, where New Zealanders can book a Safe Night on behalf of a woman and her children for just $ 20.
The calendar was kept updated throughout the month, and has surpassed the target. Thanks to generous New Zealanders and kind partner Contact Energy, Women’s Refuge raised 26,219 nights, making it the most successful month of fundraising ever for Women’s Refuge.
Dr Ang Jury ONZM, Chief Executive of Women’s Refuge, said: “We are in awe of the response to this campaign, in particular the amazing generosity of New Zealanders and our partner Contact Energy, as well as EightyOne for showing the scale of need for assistance in a way that resonated with so many people across Aotearoa. While each year we see the number of women and children reaching out to us increase, we are heartened that so many are reaching out for help.”
The campaign went live across multiple media outputs including cinema, digital, TV, outdoor, and featured on The Project and The AM Show.
