AUCKLAND, Yesterday: Blur the Lines interior design studio earned the Supreme Award at Friday’s New Zealand Retail Interiors Association Awards, celebrating standout retail and hospitality design across New Zealand.
Their creation, a multi-sensory Comvita store at Auckland International Airport Duty Free, breaks through the typical shopping clutter, setting new standards in both the Mānuka honey category and New Zealand’s duty-free retail experience.
The 14sqm space wows with its ceiling art installation—10,000 beeswax-dipped fabric cones crafted from Comvita’s own hive wax—making it an unmistakable beacon.
A custom LED screen wraps around a column, showcasing flowing honey and bees in motion graphics, with hive sounds, scents, and a honey tasting experience on an iPad.
“What a magical and innovative world class experience. The design is very authentic with a premium finish and everything speaks to the quality of the product, setting a new bar for the category.” – Judges
“It was amazing to be recognised for our fresh approach to retail design, especially in such a challenging year,” said Creative Director Danielle Barclay.
The project also won three additional awards: Health and Beauty Category Winner, Innovation Excellence, and Digital Integration Excellence.
Judges said, “What a magical and innovative world class experience. The design is very authentic with a premium finish and everything speaks to the quality of the product, setting a new bar for the category.”
Since opening, the store has seen impressive sales growth and is now the most photographed space in the duty-free area.
