AUCKLAND, Today: The Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki is staging the largest exhibition in its history – an opportunity Phantom Billstickers could not resist. “We liked the sound of that. So we got involved,” said Phantom’s Rupert Fenton.
Toi Tū Toi Ora: Contemporary Māori Art includes more than 300 artworks spanning 70 years, with masterworks by 111 artists including Ralph Hotere, Robyn Kahukiwa, Michael Parekowhai, Lisa Reihana and Cliff Whiting – all now showing
Fenton said: “As well as being one of the sponsors, we’re running a street poster campaign that showcases the work of Māori artists in Phantom frames. Auckland is now Artland, and we couldn’t be happier.
“Auckland is now Artland, and we couldn’t be happier.”
“It’s Now showing inside the Art Gallery and across Auckland/ Tāmaki Makaurau, from Queen St to Queens Rd (in Panmure), not to mention New Lynn and the North Shore.
“Come one, come all.”
Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki director Kirsten Lacy said: “We warmly invite all New Zealanders to take pride in Māori creativity and to explore the Māori creation narrative in a new way.
“This is a free exhibition for everyone to enjoy and we hope visitors will leave full of heart.”
