To celebrate the return of the blockbuster with Wonder Woman 1984, Val Morgan asked New Zealand’s media industry to get their Lasso of Truth out and tell them “Who is your media Wonder Woman?”
The industry nominated their colleagues and clients to take out the Wonder Woman tiara and the winner has been announced as…
Amber Conroy from PHD Auckland.
New Zealand’s newly crowned Media Wonder Woman was nominated by her peers for her “time-stopping strength, charm and leadership – Amber manages a huge workload, is loved by all (agency, industry and clients), and is a wonderful leader.”
Amber has won a VIP private screening with 20 of her closest friends.
A big congratulations to the runners up, who all demonstrated impressive media Wonder Woman qualities and won a double HOYTS Lux pass each:
- Hannah Rowley (Ikon)
- Pamela Figueroa (OMD)
- Briana Eggleton (Wavemaker)
- Pam Stanton (PHD)
- Jill Varani (MBM)
Andy Athans, Marketing Manager – VMO & Val Morgan Cinema, says: “We had over 40 amazing entries – it wasn’t easy picking the winners!”
To celebrate, StopPress spoke to Amber about true superheroes in the industry, what PHD does to support Wonder Women in the workplace, and what superpower she would choose to have.
Congratulations on being crowned New Zealand’s Media Wonder Woman! How does it feel?
WONDERful. I feel very honoured to be crowned NZMWW! A very cool way to end a mammoth 2020.
Who will you be taking to the VIP private screening?
My awesome team who go above and beyond every day. Also, my partner in crime Superman (aka Hubby). I will need to keep this screening on the dlow from my daughter (5) who is obsessed with Wonder Woman.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation. The ability to be anywhere in a heartbeat e.g. school pick-up, meetings, visit my sis in London, grocery shopping.
What does PHD Auckland do to support and celebrate Wonder Women in the workplace?
Our agency is full of Wonder Women (and Supermen) who make the media magic happen every day.
We have loads of initiatives across the agency to support and celebrate success:
- An openness and inclusion taskforce (driving open discussion and celebrating diversity)
- Employees of the quarter (5x employees each quarter get awarded for each of our PHD values – Creativity, Collaboration, Courage, Curiosity and Openness)
- Annual Bondi Awards – in honour of Louise Bond a PHD founder and legend. These awards celebrate individuals, great ideas and teams
- Buzz and beers (empowering everyone to share their awesome work and client initiatives quarterly)
- Leap of the month (celebrating an individual or team who has made a BIG leap across APAC)
What qualities do you think make a wonderful leader?
Resilience, self-awareness, courage, openness, vulnerability, smarts, integrity, creativity and warmth!
Who do you think is a true superhero in the industry?
There are so many Superheroes in the industry! Nikki Grafton (PHD NZ CEO) and Lee-Ann Morris (PHD NZ MD) – these two legends lead PHD with great strength, integrity, openness, extreme smarts and warmth.
Thanks to all those who entered and a big congratulations again to Val Morgan’s Wonder Woman, Amber!
