Omnicom Media Group (OMG) has taken out the top spot as New Zealand’s number one media agency network according to RECMA’s Overall Activity report.
The report found OMG has experienced 29 percent growth yoy, with OMD taking out the number one agency position, closely followed by PHD.
Out of 14 reported agencies OMD NZ maintained the number one position of overall activity volume in the New Zealand market, at 24 percent share of reported agency spend in CY-2021 supported by 34 percent yoy growth.

Omnicom Media Group (OMG) has increased its share of the New Zealand market from 43.3 percent to 47.9 percent and is now larger than the next three holding groups combined share of agency market. OMG NZ has also reported the largest 3-year growth rate at +47 percent across the six reported media agency networks.
PHD Group NZ saw ongoing growth at +16 percent in CY-2021 and maintained the number two position with 20 percent share of reported NZ agency spend in CY-2021.
Hearts & Science was the fastest growing agency in 2021 at 132 percent yoy and is on track to become the largest growing agency in 2022 across a three-year period, despite only launching in 2019.
In addition to the 2021 Overall Activity Ranking, OMG NZ has also scored highly in qualitative evaluation by RECMA. Out of 14 agencies PHD was ranked number one followed closely in second place by OMD and Hearts & Science ranked ninth. This qualitative report evaluates media agencies’ strengths and weaknesses across 17 criteria with key evaluation points being (1) competitiveness in pitches (2) new business balance (3) specialist capability and (4) client portfolio.
