Sky announces new Chief Media and Data Officer

Lauren Quaintance has been appointed as Chief Media and Data Officer for Sky, a new role on the company’s executive leadership team.

Quaintance is an award-winning entrepreneur and executive highly experienced at leading teams and embedding an entrepreneurial culture in organisations. She has a deep understanding of customer and audiences and the link between content and commerce.

With a background in media and content marketing, Quaintance has high level experience in developing new streams of revenue and accelerating the shift to digital. She has honed her understanding of client needs by working closely with major brands such as IAG, Microsoft and Telstra.

A Kiwi, Quaintance studied at Victoria University, Canterbury University and Columbia in the US, and started her career in journalism in New Zealand, before taking on executive roles at Fairfax Media in Australia, and building successful start-up Storyation (a digital content marketing agency, subsequently sold to NewsCorp).

She was recognised as B&T Women in Media Australia Entrepreneur of the Year, and is a director on the Crusaders (Super Rugby) board.

Chief Executive Sophie Moloney says as one of the company’s priorities are maximising the advertising opportunity and leveraging content and the platform especially in the free-to-air space, the importance of data cannot be understated “for both our core subscription business and our renewed advertising lens”.

“We have access to an extraordinary amount of data about our customers and their preferences, but there is much more we can do to unlock its power and maximise this competitive edge. The newly-created Executive role of Chief Media and Data Officer ensures we give the right attention to these priorities, and we are delighted to welcome Lauren into the role.”

Quaintance will join the team on March 29 2023 and says: “Sky is incredibly well-positioned with highly valued content, deeply engaged audiences and significant reach via free-to-air. I can’t wait to join Sky’s leadership team and help the organisation to capitalise on these advantages as it continues its exciting transformation.”
