In a world where nearly everyone is always online, there is no offline.

NZ Herald takes on live shopping

The NZ Herald is partnering with The Warehouse Group to take on the interactivity of digital live streaming and e-commerce shopping.

The Selection Live Shopping will be a new channel that will take on live shopping events every Tuesday and will be hosted on the NZ Herald website.

Each show will showcase a variety of products through demonstrations and discussions and will be hosted by radio host, Mike Puru who has the job to entice viewers to make purchases.

NZME, owner of NZ Herald will be the first company to test out live shopping in New Zealand after 2022 saw the form of shopping take off in other parts of the world.

“We’re always in tune with the latest digital trends and innovations at NZME, and we’re seeing across the globe a rise in retailers designing innovative and virtual shopping solutions for their customers,” says NZME Chief Digital and Publishing Officer, Carolyn Luey.

“The Selection Live Shopping is built off this idea and we’ll be testing a series of captivating and dynamic live events to help NZ Herald readers to find their next favourite purchase.”

Luey adds that The Selection Live Shopping channel will be convenient for avid online shoppers who miss out on the in-store experiences such as interacting with a salesperson.

“This new channel brings these two shopping preferences together, with live discussion outlining the features of products, along with audience engagement, entertaining audience polls and fantastic giveaways,” says Luey.

In order to provide the in-store shopping experience via livestream, NZ Herald is working alongside The Warehouse Group for the first few episodes which will feature winter essentials.

“The NZ Herald’s new live shopping channel presents a unique opportunity for us to engage with Kiwis on a whole new level,” says Jonathan Waecker, Chief Customer Officer for The Warehouse Group.

The first live shopping event will take place on Tuesday, May 9 at 12.30pm.
