Stuff announces new editor for The Post

WELLINGTON, Wednesday: Respected senior editor Tracy Watkins has been appointed as the new editor of leading newspaper and digital site The Post in the Capital.

Watkins has led the Sunday Star-Times and Sunday News teams for the past four years as Sundays editor for Stuff. Prior to this, she was political editor and bureau chief for Stuff.

Watkins will continue to oversee the editorial direction of the Sunday Star-Times and Sunday News, supported by teams of journalists around the country, while also taking editorial leadership of The Post.

“Tracy is a highly experienced and award-winning editor and journalist,” says Joanna Norris, managing director of Stuff Masthead Publishing.

“Thanks to her direction, Stuff now dominates the national Sunday audience reaching 328,000 Kiwis across the Sunday Star-Times and Sunday News.

“Tracy’s strong leadership skills and unparalleled political acumen mean she is the perfect person to lead the future direction of The Post spearheading outstanding journalism and subscription growth in our nationally-focused titles in both print and digital.”

“As a proud Wellingtonian with a passion for politics, taking on the editorship of The Post is a dream come true – especially in the lead-up to the October election.”

Watkins said: “As a proud Wellingtonian with a passion for politics, taking on the editorship of The Post is a dream come true – especially in the lead-up to the October election.

“I look forward to working with the team to provide original, agenda-setting journalism that reflects the mood of Wellington and the nation.

The Post will continue to drive strong reporting on critical Wellington issues, while further expanding its coverage of national issues decided in the Capital and the impact they have on individuals, communities and businesses.”
