King Kapisi’s royal tribute

AUCKLAND, Friday: New Zealand’s music icon, King Kapisi, has teamed up with Mastercard to honor Aotearoa’s resilient small businesses reaching a decade in operation.

The initiative recognizes the rarity of businesses lasting a decade, with only 28% surviving among those founded in New Zealand ten years ago.

Mastercard, acknowledging the challenges, offers a unique tribute: a letter from King Kapisi to commend their remarkable achievement.

Ruth Riviere, Mastercard’s country manager, highlights the goal of showcasing the often underestimated triumphs of businesses enduring the ten-year journey.

Bill Urale, aka King Kapisi, expresses enthusiasm for celebrating the spirit of Kiwi businesses taking risks, facing highs and lows, and achieving significant milestones.

“The initiative recognizes the rarity of businesses lasting a decade, with only 28% surviving among those founded in New Zealand ten years ago.”

Eagle Bar, an Auckland institution celebrating a decade, serves as an example, receiving a surprise from King Kapisi.

Kurt MacIntosh, Eagle Bar’s owner, appreciates the recognition, emphasizing the vital role small businesses play in creating welcoming spaces for communities.

Small businesses in Aotearoa reaching the 10+ year milestone can nominate themselves via Mastercard’s Instagram for a chance at royal recognition, with the first 50 receiving a framed letter from King Kapisi and three lucky businesses enjoying a special visit.
