Johnny Barker often hears, “Do I know you from somewhere?” Most think they recognise him from past schools or jobs, but his fame actually comes from his role as the Ferndale Strangler, Joey Henderson, on Shortland Street.
Despite playing one of TV’s most notorious villains, Johnny is a father of two, an avid musician, and one of the nicest guys around.

Since moving from acting to directing, he’s led projects like the comedy series Jono & Ben, Funny Girls, and Homebound 3.0. He’s also directed ads for big names like Air New Zealand and BMW, as well as New Zealand’s first children’s web series and various music videos across the globe.
Johnny is passionate about discovering new talent and helping them shine on screen. He aims to keep evolving as a director, focusing on stunning cinematography, cutting-edge effects, and genuine performances.
