NZME: new Strategy Lead for CreateME and senior appointments in regional newsrooms

Over the last week, NZME has announced a spate of new hires, including a new Strategy Lead and Commercial Editor for CreateMe, its partner content team.

Daniel Rutledge takes up the new role with over 17 years experience in media, with previous roles at 3 News and Newshub.

Head of CreateMe, Alana O’Neill, is pleased to welcome Rutledge to the team, saying his calibre and experience precede him.

“His skills and wisdom in the digital news and commercial content space will be invaluable in this newly created role. At NZME we are committed to providing our customers with exceptional solutions, with the ability to support their campaign goals with effective content to maximise their brand exposure across NZME’s array of high-performing print, digital and audio platforms.”

Rutledge adds he is thrilled about the new role and to be able to use his expertise to enhance client messaging with content audiences genuinely wants to engage with.

“In these challenging times for the media industry, the importance of commercial partnerships is only going to increase. NZME has the best brands and the best teams with which to provide the best partner content in New Zealand, and I’m very excited to be coming on board.”

Meanwhile, two senior editorial appointments have been made in NZME regional and community newsrooms across the country.

Scott Inglis has joined the team as North Island Regional Editor and Kim Gillespie as Editor – Bay of Plenty and Communities.

Inglis has been in daily newsrooms for 35 years, with more than 16 of those as Regional Editor at the Bay of Plenty Times and Rotorua Daily Post. In his new position with NZME, he will lead NZME’s six regional news titles and the newly established regional leadership hub.

Gillespie has close to three decades of journalism experience, including as Editor of the Whanganui Chronicle and Rotorua Daily Post, and several senior operational roles with NZME too.

He will now be leading the Bay of Plenty Times and Rotorua Daily Post regional team, as well as continuing his role as Communities Network Editor, where he leads NZME’s stable of community titles.

NZME Editor in Chief Murray Kirkness is delighted to be welcoming the duo to the team and into the newly formed senior newsroom roles.

“Scott and Kim are excellent leaders and bring a wealth of experience and knowledge. They’ll do a fantastic job of supporting our teams across our regional and community newsrooms. Appointing leaders of their calibre further strengthens our ongoing commitment to regional and community journalism.”
