Are Media has appointed Jacqui Loates-Haver as the editor of Kia Ora, Air New Zealand’s flagship inflight magazine.
It’s a move that marks an exciting new chapter for the title, says the media company.
Loates-Haver will be a familiar name to both readers and partners, having previously edited the magazine from 2017 to 2020.
During that time, she led Kia Ora to its highest-ever readership levels, delivering the strongest commercial performance to date and cementing the magazine’s position as a premium storytelling platform that connects with both domestic and international audiences.
Her appointment follows the retirement of Virginia Larson, who is stepping down after an outstanding five years leading the team.
Editorial excellence and commercial success
Welcoming Loates-Haver, Are Media general manager Stuart Dick says: “We’re delighted to have Jacqui leading Kia Ora into a new era. She knows the brand intimately and has a proven track record of editorial excellence and commercial success. We look forward to seeing her build on the strong foundations already in place to expand the magazine’s influence, both in the air and beyond.”
Loates-Haver will continue to evolve the title’s editorial direction, amplifying its strength and trust in travel, lifestyle, business and cultural coverage that readers and partners value.
Reconnect with the audience
“Kia Ora is such a unique publication and has always been a career highlight for me, so I am excited to have the opportunity to return to the editor’s desk and reconnect with the audience,” says Loates-Haver.
“I am looking forward to bringing the insight and experience I have developed over the past five years to the role and taking the brand to the next level. Kia Ora has always been about celebrating the people and places of Aotearoa – supercharging our country to the rest of the world. There is no better brief for an editor.”
Loates-Haver will take up the role in late March.
