AUCKLAND, Friday: The Comms Council has lent its support for the 24th Kyiv International Advertising Festival (KIAF), which has issued an invitation for New Zealand creatives to enter Ukraine’s “socially significant communications contest programme” for 2023.
The festival is dedicated exclusively to entries that focus on making the world a better place.
The Comms Council’s Axl Arthur said: “The KIAF contest programme aims to draw attention to important social, ethical, environmental, and other problems currently troubling society and inspire people around the world to take action.
“Creative communications play an important role in making this happen, and New Zealand businesses are encouraged to participate.”
The festival includes a special contest called Peace, created for works and campaigns against war, aggression, genocide, and crimes against humanity, including the current war in Ukraine.
Priorities in this contest are promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, reducing violence, combating crime and terrorism, and combating organised crime and illicit financial and arms flows.

There are 13 contests in total, each with 11 categories that reflect the tools used to achieve the set communication tasks. The categories include film, radio, print, social media, and PR campaigns.
Creatives in New Zealand are invited to enter and showcase their work and campaigns that promote positive change, including efforts to educate, inspire action, reduce discrimination, and combat poverty and hunger, among others.
The winners will be announced at the end of May, and the festival is open to all parties, organisations, and individual creators involved in the advertising, production, media, PR, design, and creative industries throughout the world.
“The KIAF festival offers a unique opportunity to showcase your work and contribute to making the world a better place,” said Arthur.
Entry submission is open on the website (scroll down for the link) until Friday 21 April. Participation in the Peace contest is free of charge for all international participants until the final deadline.
