AUCKLAND, Today: McDonald’s New Zealand has just dropped its hottest dish yet—the Mighty Hot McSpicy. In this fiery newcomer, DDB Aotearoa and McDonald’s are stirring up heat, sparking a spicy debate: Is it really as hot as they say?

“Spice is subjective,” says Stefanie Phillips, McDonald’s Senior Brand Manager – Menu.

“Even though it’s our spiciest burger ever, everybody has a different spice tolerance. Instead of telling the country how spicy this new burger is, McDonald’s wants people to determine that for themselves.”


“This campaign celebrates the best of these reactions, bringing them to life and encouraging even more New Zealanders to take the Mighty Hot McSpicy test.”


Through the Macca’s app, spice aficionados can judge for themselves if the Mighty Hot McSpicy meets their heat standards. Each spicy verdict unlocks a sizzling deal, exclusive to the app.

The campaign utilises a multimedia platform strategy, showcasing real-time reactions. Watch as Kiwis’ spicy assessments light up billboards and Macca’s digital and social channels.
