Simon Laird has been appointed as Head of Sales and Partnerships for Google NZ and brings with him a passion for sharing his experience and supporting others.
Having worked for Google NZ for eight years, Laird has developed his specialist knowledge of Google products and tools across a number of roles within the business, most recently leading strategic partnerships with some of New Zealand’s largest retail brands.
Laird will now bring his expertise to the wider portfolio of Google client partnerships in New Zealand to continue to cement strong relationships and lead the wider team in supporting businesses digital transformation across all industries.
In his new role, he will work closely with Caroline Rainsford, Country Director for Google New Zealand, and the leadership team which includes Liz Geor – Head of Agencies, Craig Whitaker – Head of Platforms, Reuben Halper – Head of YouTube, and Hayley Botes – Head of Small-Medium Market Sales.
In 2020 Laird won the IAB’s Digital Excellence Award for outstanding creativity and innovative use of data and technical implementation in campaigns.
Last year, he spoke at the Retail iMedia event in Taupo on the importance of omnichannel marketing, and continues to hold a position on the iMedia advisory board. Laird enjoys sharing his knowledge and supporting others as both a coach and mentor to junior team members, helping them with navigating their roles and wellbeing.

Caroline Rainsford, Country Director, Google New Zealand says the team has grown from around 10 when Laird started to now over 70.

Before joining Google, Laird worked his way up the ranks at First Digital to lead a team of nine consultants. First was one of New Zealand’s first Search specialist agencies which positioned him well for a move across to Google in 2014.
